One Direction have replaced Metallica for most ticket sales at Allphones Arena.

One Direction sold 81,542 tickets to their seven Sydney shows at the venue beating Metallica’s 74,244 ticket sales from their 2010 tour.

Each member of One Direction was presented with a Gold Microphone as a trophy and a plaque was positioned in the Sydney Olympic Park precinct to mark the achievement.

Allphones Arena General Manager, Guy Ngata, said today “Epic and extraordinary are words too commonly used these days. One Direction’s run of seven performances at Allphones Arena was just outstanding. 81,542 screaming fans across six perfect October days will be something difficult to ever repeat let alone break. Thank you Nine Live, Sony Music and everyone involved with this amazing tour and most importantly to One Direction, you gave us all reason to scream!”

General Manager of Nine Live, Leon Spellson said “Nine Live and Sony Music as the tours co promoters are so proud to be associated with the One Direction 2013 Take Me Home Australian & New Zealand Tour. Congratulations to the boys for this remarkable achievement. The band put on a great show every night of the tour to their incredibly loyal and enthusiastic fans.”

One Direction performed 26 shows in Australia and New Zealand on the tour and performed their final show in Sydney last Saturday night.
