The Gangnam Style singer has been asked to take to the stage at popular nightclub The Darby.

American restaurateur Scott Sartiano has hired the star to rock the venue with his catchy party hit.

‘The staff will be styled like the girls in the Gangnam Style video and [New York club owners] Richie Akiva and Ronnie Madra will decorate the Meatpacking District space with over 1,000 black lanterns,’ the New York Post reports.

Psy will follow in the illustrious footsteps of Pink, Prince, Lionel Richie, Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars, who have all previously performed at The Darby.

However, the severe weather problems caused by Hurricane Sandy could jeopardise the event.

With the fierce storm expected to hit New York and surrounding areas today, many flights have been cancelled and people have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel.

State officials have even predicted that Halloween activities like trick-or-treating might have to be postponed for safety reasons.

John Legend, The xx and Rita Ora have all been forced to postpone or cancel gigs, while outdoor shooting permits for shows such as Gossip Girl, The Carrie Diaries and Elementary have all been temporarily suspended.

Keira Knightley was due to attend the New York premiere of Anna Karenina on Tuesday but that has also been called off.
