Russell Morris Returns To Top Of Australia’s Blues Chart

Russell Morris ‘Red Dirt Red Heart’ is once again the number one blues album in Australia.

‘Red Dirt Red Heart’, part three of Morris’ blues trilogy, has spent all 28 weeks since its release in the Australian Blues chart Top 10, mostly at number one or top five.

All three Russell Morris blues albums ‘Sharkmouth’, ‘Van Diemen’s Land’ and ‘Red Dirt Red Heart’ have been number one blues albums in Australia and all three have also graced the overall ARIA album chart.

The Russell Morris blues project became with ‘Sharkmouth’ in 2013, 46 years after his first single with Somebody’s Image in 1967 and 44 years after his iconic ‘The Real Thing’.

While Russell had a string of hits in the 60s and 70s it wasn’t until ‘Sharkmouth’ where he had his first Top 10 album peaking at no 6 and then doing even better with the follow-up ‘Van Diemen’s Land’, reaching no 4.

The trilogy have been some of the biggest selling albums for an Australian act of the last five years, not bad for a mid 60s blues artist with next to no commercial radio airplay and three independent releases.

Russell has just been in Canada showcasing at Canadian Music Week and is performing in Nashville this week before heading to Brazil for two shows at the Avenida Paulista Festival on May 21 and 22.

Russell will return to Australia for more shows in June.
