Sam Smith Says It Isn’t Easy Writing A James Bond Song

Sam Smith lied through his teeth about his involvement in the latest James Bond theme tune.

The 23-year-old confirmed he was involved with the music for upcoming movie Spectre on Tuesday. And during a chat with British newspaper The Sun’s showbiz editor Dan Wootton, Sam admitted it had been hard to keep it a secret, especially after the journalist first reported the rumours in August last year.

“You figured it out and then I had to lie through my teeth, which isn’t much fun,” Sam laughed. “My lying is really good now, when you say ‘genuinely’ people believe it.’

But now the news has been confirmed, Sam can finally share his excitement over Writing’s On The Wall. The track was penned by Sam and his writing partner James Napes, but the movie’s director Sam Mendes also chipped in with tips on how the song should sound.

“It’s his film and vision and there were certain sonics and lyrics he felt maybe weren’t working and needed to work in certain ways,” the musician explained.

Speculation has already begun about whether Sam will follow Adele’s lead and win an Oscar for his theme tune to go with his Grammy and Brit wins. But the Lay Me Down singer insists he’s more concerned about it going down as a classic James Bond theme tune.

“With Bond, if you go back through the songs not all of them won Oscars, even the most timeless ones,” he explained. “For me it’s about making the most timeless songs that will last forever. I’ve given it a good f**king shot. I love the song.”

Sam spoke at last night’s GQ Men of the Year awards in London where he received the Ciroc solo artist award. The singer admits such accolades are a big boost to his confidence.

“It’s a big deal for me because suddenly I feel sexy. I feel like people want to look at me,” he confessed. ‘I’m single and tonight is the night we find the man to inspire the next album.’
