Sister Sledge have managed to transcend time, genre, and culture… The Chicago Tribune put it best, Sister Sledge “has the stuff legends are made of.”

Formed in 1971, the group consisted of sisters Debbie, Joni, Kim and Kathy Sledge. 1979 saw the release of their breakthrough album We Are Family, which spawned “He’s the Greatest Dancer”, “Lost in Music”, and “Thinking of You”.

With Kathy leaving in 1989, the group have since operated as a trio (with Kathy occasionally re-joining for one-off performances and several releases in the 1990s).

Fast forward to 2016 and Sister Sledge are in the UK to conduct a special performance at Care International’s ‘Walk In Her Shoes’ event on Sunday 6th March 2016 at The Scoop next to City Hall, London.

Sister Sledge will join influential female figures such as Annie Lennox, Bianca Jagger and Helen Pankhurst, the great-granddaughter of Suffragette leader Emmeline Pankhurst, who will lead a march ahead of International Women’s Day, which globally recognises the achievements of women as well as highlighting the issues facing them in society.

The Walk In Her Shoes march launches CARE International’s Walk In Her Shoes fundraising campaign, which asks people to walk 10,000 steps a day for 1 week in March, in solidarity with women and girls in poor communities who make gruelling daily treks for water, at the expense of the opportunity to go to school, and do paid work. This daily trek cruelly limits the status of women in their homes, communities and societies.

Music-News.com caught up with Debbie, Joni, Kim at an exclusive West London hotel to find out more. Click above for the full uncut interview with the lovely sisters.

Sister Sledge will also be participating in WOW – Women of the World, Southbank Centre’s annual festival to present, recognise and celebrate women. There they will also preview their new track Women Are The Music of the World, (WAMOW) which will be released in April 2016.
