That Bachelor Girl Memo Music Hall Show is next week is a rare one

Bachelor Girl fans will have a rare treat when the band return for a rare Melbourne show at Memo Music Hall next week. Bachelor Girl have performed so few shows in the past 15 years you can literally count them in two hands.

Before the A Day On The Green shows of 2088, “the last gigs were in 2011, about seven years ago and then it was about seven years before that,” James Roche tells Noise11.com. “In 2011 we did five shows to promote an album called ‘Loved and Lost’. It was an album of greatest hits and previously unreleased songs. We only did five gigs, so if you skip past that you have to go back to 2004. So we haven’t done much gigging but Tania (Doko) and I have done more gigs than most people have had hot dinners over the course of our career. Stepping on stage is very comfortable for us. We enjoy performing immensely and find people coming to a show are the ones who genuinely loved our music. We get a lot of love and appreciation from the audience. It is a love fest”.

This latest reunion came about by chance. Tania lives in Sweden but happened to be in Australia when they were asked to perform for Australian Day. James said, “We really enjoy working together. We found that out by doing a gig for Australia Day in Sydney at the Opera House. They asked us to do ‘Buses and Trains’. Tania was in the country at the time so it was just good luck we could say yes. We went and did that and had a great time. The next day we wrote a song together and had a great time doing that. So we decided to end our hiatus and get back together”.

In 2018 Bachelor Girl recorded the new song ‘Speak’.

Bachelor Girl will perform at Memo Music Hall on 18 May with special guest Abbey Stone. Doors open at 7:30pm, showtime is 8:40pm. Tickets are $47 reserved or $40 general admission.

Sammy Hagar’s New Live Album Features Rai Thistlethwayte of Thirsty Merc

Sammy Hagar has always had a reputation for surrounding himself with powerhouse players, but his upcoming live album, Sammy Hagar & The Best Of All Worlds Band – The Residency (out October 10, 2025 via Big Machine Rock), brings a distinctly Australian twist. On keyboards, vocals and guitar is Rai Thistlethwayte, best known at home for fronting Thirsty Merc and more recently as a member of The Fabulous Caprettos. For Australian fans, the inclusion of Thistlethwayte in Hagar’s latest chapter is a striking reminder of how far the Sydney-born musician’s career has travelled.
