The Go-Betweens and Guests, Ryuichi Sakamoto For Melbourne International Arts Festival

The Melbourne International Arts Festival has revealed its 2018 line-up with a performance by The Go-Betweens with special guests and Japanese experimental electronic artist Ryuichi Sakamoto part of the schedule.

The Go-Betweens will perform the iconic ’16 Lovers Lane’ album to mark its 30th anniversary. Guests for the one-off performance are Paul and Dan Kelly, Romy Vager (RVG), Laura Jean and Jen Cloher.

Ryuichi Sakamoto will perform together with Alva Noto.

The Melbourne International Arts Festival had previously announced The The. Other components include William Forsythe’s A Quiet Evening of Dance’, the dance opera Laya and Majnun reimagined by Mark Morris and Yo-Yo Ma’s Silkroad Ensemble, new work by Australian artist Polly Borland and new Zealand artist Ronnie van Hout.

Artistic Director Jonathan Holloway said: “This year’s Melbourne International Arts Festival is a unique opportunity to open a series of doors into parallel worlds, to step through and discover a universe of real and imagined journeys; to become immersed in stories, adventures and experiences far beyond our everyday.
“During this year’s Festival, we will enter the Royal Botanic Gardens and see it awash with flame. We will walk into a circus tent and discover a world of music and performance. We follow explorers as they travel the Silk Road, or journey back to where they came from, or push on to safety, or fall into star crossed love.
“The Melbourne Festival is about encouraging your curiosity. Cross the threshold with us,” said Holloway.
Melbourne International Arts Festival takes place from 3 – 21 October 2018.

Tickets will be available from midday Monday 30 July.
