Tom Petty Family Issue Statement Following His Death

Tom Petty’s manager Tony Dimitriades has issued a statement on behalf of the Petty family following the singer’s death from a cardiac arrest at age 66.

“On behalf of the Tom Petty family we are devastated to announce the untimely death of our father, husband, brother, leader and friend Tom Petty,” the statement said.

“He suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu in the early hours of this morning and was taken to UCLA Medical Center but could not be revived. He died peacefully at 8:40PST surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends”.

News of Petty’s death surfaced hours before the official statement. It is believed that the cardiac arrest caused irreversible brain damage. While the inevitable was about to happen, news spread quick forcing original news source CBS to retract its story.

Petty’s had just wrapped a North American tour to celebrate 40 years of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.
