Tony Abbott Is Macklemore’s Best Music Publicist

Former Australian Prime Minister the ousted Tony Abbott may very well be Australia’s best music publicist. He is certainly doing a great job for Macklemore sales. The extreme right-winged politician is responsible for Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ 5-year old gay anthem ‘Same Love’ leaping back to no 1 in Australia.

Abbott’s dummy-spit moment earlier this week when with clenched fists he said that Macklemore should not be allowed to perform ‘Same Love’ at this weekend’s Grand Final in Sydney has sent the five year old song soaring back to no 1 on the iTunes chart.

‘Same Love’ was released in 2012 and by the end of year 2013 chart in Australia it had become the 14th biggest selling song of the year.

Abbott lead the charge against Macklemore tweeting, “Footy fans shouldn’t be subjected to a politicised grand final. Sport is sport!” For some strange reason, the fact that the song is five years old and had nothing to do with Australia’s current same sex marriage debacle went over his head. Also, the fact the song was a no 1 hit in Australia seemed to also make his eyes glaze over. If you put an entertainer at the football, the expectation from the crowd is that they will want to her said artists biggest hits. ‘Same Love’ is the one song he must play.

Abbott has a supported for his wacky righted winged way in Queensland MP Bob Katter. “If they take the most sacred day of the year, outside of Christmas, and use it to promote their sexual proclivities, that is an insult and an offence to every single follower of rugby league in this country,” Katter told the 7:30 Report.

Macklemore is determined to perform the song at the Grand Final. Today he tweeted “Yesterday someone started a petition in Australia to ban me from playing Same Love at the ‪#NRLGF. Today its #1 on iTunes. Love is winning
