Tony Iommi has released the limited edition 7-inch edition of World Alone, the first single from his forthcoming solo album From The Dark, which will be released by BMG on 23 October 2026. The single features an exclusive instrumental version of the song on its B-side and is presented in a deluxe foiled sleeve, extending the release campaign for Iommi’s first solo studio album in 21 years.
World Alone was introduced on 29 July alongside the announcement of From The Dark. The song features Norwegian vocalist Jorn Lande, who performs across the album and shares songwriting credits with Iommi on every track.
The recording is built around Iommi’s electric guitar, with a driving rhythm section provided by bassist Becky Baldwin and drummer Karl Brazil. Lande supplies the lead vocal, giving the track a melodic hard rock dimension while Iommi’s guitar work remains central to the arrangement.
The World Alone video presents a retrofuturistic dystopian narrative centred on a character known as The Believer. The protagonist is placed inside a dangerous video game environment, where survival and salvation become the objectives. Iommi has also released a behind-the-scenes film documenting the production of the video.
From The Dark was co-produced by Iommi and Mike Exeter, Iommi’s long-time creative collaborator, co-writer, producer and audio engineer. The album has been described as a contemporary recording built around Iommi’s established guitar sound, with the production designed to give the performances a clear and expansive presentation.
The album contains eight principal tracks, beginning with Over The Violent Sun and continuing through Black Times, World Alone, Beyond The Dead, Stormwatcher, Death Wake, Return Of The Arbalist and Legacy.
The deluxe CD edition adds Scent Of Dark and Deified as bonus tracks. Both songs have previously appeared as individual releases, but their inclusion gives the expanded album edition additional material beyond the core eight-song sequence.
The physical editions of From The Dark have been configured with collectors in mind. The double LP will be issued in black vinyl as well as three coloured variants: Monkey red and black marble, New Boy white and black marble, and Eyeglass transparent blue. Each version uses a die-cut gatefold sleeve featuring Iommi’s signature cross.
The vinyl has been cut at 45rpm, with the packaging incorporating artwork designed as an unfolding visual sequence. The album will also be available in several CD configurations, including a deluxe 32-page media book with the two bonus tracks, an Amazon exclusive digisleeve and a standard CD edition. A digital edition will also be released.
The new album follows Fused, Iommi’s last solo studio album, released in 2005. In the intervening years, the guitarist remained active through Black Sabbath projects, collaborations and other recordings, including the band’s 2013 studio album 13.
Iommi’s position in heavy metal history was established with Black Sabbath, the Birmingham band he co-founded with Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward. His guitar sound, built around heavy riffs and lower tunings, became one of the defining elements of the genre.
His approach to guitar was also shaped by an industrial accident when he was 17, which resulted in the loss of the tips of two fingers on his fretting hand. Iommi adapted his technique and continued performing, ultimately developing a playing style that became inseparable from Black Sabbath’s sound.
From The Dark marks a return to the solo album format after more than two decades. It also places Iommi back at the centre of a full-length studio project following Black Sabbath’s final touring chapter.
The release of World Alone on 7-inch gives the album campaign a physical focal point ahead of the October release. The instrumental B-side provides an alternative presentation of the song and is exclusive to the single edition.
From The Dark will be released on 23 October 2026 through BMG, with the album available across multiple vinyl, CD and digital formats.
