Tool To Release New Album In 2017 So Is James Blunt

Tool will release their first album in 11 years next year but be warned so will James Blunt.

Blunt tweeted today, “If you thought 2016 was bad – I’m releasing an album in 2017”.

But all is not bad with the world. Tool bass player James Chancellor tells Bass Player magazine that Tool is “deep into the writing process”.

Chancellor said in the interview “We’ve narrowed things down to big groups of ideas. For the past few months we’ve been working on one of the newer songs fairly exclusively. We get the gist of it and find the main themes that make up the skeleton between verses and choruses. Then we explore different ways we can depart from that and come back to it and flip it upside down, and take the time to see what else is there. Everyone knows we take our time. We’re really trying to be responsible with ourselves in trying to discover ideas that haven’t been discovered before. It’s kind of an alchemy, how we experiment.”

Expect a 2017 release for the Tool album as “All I can say is that we’ll go back Monday and do our best to finish it for you, although that’s not really how it works,” he said. “But we know the listeners will be happy with it when it’s finished.”

The yet-to-be named Tool album will be the fifth album for the band that has sold over 12 million albums in the USA alone.

Previous Tool albums are:

Undertow (1993, 2.9 million)
Aenima (1996, 3.4 million)
Lateralus (2001, 2.6 million)
10000 Days (2006, 1.7 million)

James Blunt’s next album will also be his fifth album.

Previous James Blunt albums with worldwide sales:

Back To Bedlam (2004, 11 million)
All The Lost Souls (2007, 3 million)
Some Kind Of Trouble (2010, 1 million)
Moon Landing (2013, 1 million)
