Australian independent rock label XMusic will present three nights of live music at Brisbane’s Soapbox Beer from September 1 to 3, bringing its roster and a selection of emerging heavy acts together during a significant week for the city’s music industry. The three-night showcase will feature performances from Awaken The Hate, Karly Jewell, Dellacoma, Slythr, PistonFist, Köld Reign and others, with each night’s programme beginning at 7.00pm.

The Brisbane event follows XMusic’s fifth anniversary earlier this year and reflects the label’s original purpose of creating a support network for Australian rock artists. The showcases are also designed to provide an accessible meeting point for musicians, fans and music industry professionals, with no conference accreditation required.

The September programme includes a Wall of Sound Heavy Metal Mixer on Wednesday night. The event will feature a keynote panel hosted by Wall of Sound Editor-in-Chief Paul ‘Browny’ Brown, with Hellfest’s Christie Medina-Gonzalez, Australian publicist Chris Maric and other participants.

Thursday has been designated Metal Singles Night, adding an industry and social component to the live programme. Soapbox’s kitchen will operate from 5.00pm to 9.00pm, with entry to the evening showcase free for customers purchasing a meal before 7.00pm.

XMusic was established by former Sony Music executive Tim McLean-Smith, who developed the label around the idea of providing a dedicated home for emerging Australian rock music.

Five years later, its roster includes Sisters Doll, Dellacoma and Karly Jewell, while the label has also expanded beyond Australia with its first international signing, Blvd of Eyes. The Brisbane showcases will bring several of those artists and associated acts together across consecutive nights.

For XMusic, the event provides an opportunity to present its developing catalogue in a live setting rather than as a conventional single-label showcase. For Brisbane, it adds three nights of dedicated heavy music programming during a week when artists, industry figures and music businesses are expected to be concentrated in the city.

The three-night format also gives audiences different entry points into the label’s roster. Awaken The Hate will perform on all three nights, while Karly Jewell appears on Tuesday and Wednesday and Dellacoma performs Tuesday and Thursday.

Tickets are $20 at the door for individual shows. A three-night pass is available for $30 through XMusic.

The showcases take place at Soapbox Beer, 89-101 Gipps Street, Fortitude Valley, with performances beginning nightly at 7.00pm.

XMusic’s September programme will therefore serve both as a fifth anniversary continuation and as a live snapshot of the label’s current Australian heavy music community.
