Broadway’s hit musical ‘You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown’ has come to Melbourne for the school holidays and its good, clean family fun.

‘You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown’ first appeared as a record album in 1966 featuring songs based on the Peanuts comic strip. It became an off-Broadway production in 1967 and then went to Broadway in 1971. A revival of the show went back to Broadway in 1999.

‘You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown’ centres around six key characters, all played by pedigree Australian actors. Charlie Brown is played by Cameron MacDonald who recently starred in Georgy Girl and Snoopy is Luigi Lucente of Rocky Horror Show and Jersey Boys fame.

Their pal Lucy is played by Courtney Glass from Jekyll and Hyde), Schroeder is Joshua Robson from Les Miserables); Linus is Adam Porter from Scooby Doo Live and Yo Gabba Gabba) and Charlie’s sister, Sally is Sarah Morrison, recently seen as the lead in Ladies in Black at MTC.

‘You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown’ is housed at the Alex Theatre in St Kilda. Producer Alex Vass said, “We know how hard it can be for families to afford a great day out with the kids. Vass Productions wants to provide affordable entertainment for the whole family. You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown has been a smash hit on Broadway and Peanuts is everyone’s favourite. If you loved the movie come and see the show!”

The show itself appeals to all-ages with the adult cast believable as little kids. Luigi Lucente had the biggest job, convincing the crowd he is a dog, but the loveable Snoopy from the Peanuts comic was more human than dog anyway.

Cameron MacDonald as Charlie Brown carries the storyline while managing to portrays Charlie Brown’s balance between kindness and anxiety. He plays that off well against Courtney Glass’ Lucy and Sarah Morrison’s Sally, and for all of Charlie Brown’s insecurities he has Linus’ lack of confidence and Schroder’s artistic indifference to balance him out.

You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown is on until July 2, 2016 at the Alex Theatre, 135 Fitzroy St, St Kilda.
