John Thomas Griffith joins Paul Cashmere at Noise11.com to discuss the first ever live album from Red Rockers, It’s In Our Blood.
Recorded during the band’s 2023 reunion performance at Tipitina’s in New Orleans, the album captures Red Rockers revisiting their politically charged debut Condition Red more than 40 years after its original release.
In this interview, John Thomas Griffith reflects on relearning songs he wrote as a young punk musician during the Reagan era and how tracks like ‘Guns of Revolution’ now feel even more relevant in modern America. He also discusses opening the concert with I’m So Bored With The U.S.A. by The Clash and the influence the legendary British punk band had on Red Rockers’ early sound.
The conversation also explores the band’s evolution from raw punk rock to the MTV-era success of ‘China’, their tours with U2, Joan Jett and Men At Work, and Griffith’s memories of opening for Bob Dylan.
John Thomas Griffith also reveals that material intended for a fourth Red Rockers album later evolved into his solo work before he joined Cowboy Mouth.
The interview closes with discussion about the possibility of more Red Rockers performances, the missing cover songs from the live album, and Griffith’s affection for Australia.
