Barbra Streisand has thanked Sony Music Australia for her no 1 debut with ‘Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway’, in particular, name-checking Sony CEO Denis Handlin.

Barbra Streisand ‘Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway’ came in at no 1 on Australia’s ARIA chart last week ahead more contemporary new releases from Frank Ocean, Britney Spears and the Suicide Squad soundtrack.

“When I heard the thrilling news that Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway had gone to #1 in the US, UK and Australia, I thought about the title of Hillary Clinton’s book, It Takes A Village,” Barbra said in a post on her website.

Barbra Streisand went on to personally thank Denis Handlin for the work of Sony Australia adding, “To Denis Handlin and the great Sony Music Australia team, for all their belief in this album”.

When the album went to number one in Australia last week Denis told Noise11.com, “Barbra Streisand has one of the greatest voices of all time. She has been an incomparable recording artist on Columbia Records for more than 50 years and her latest album “Encore – Movie Partners sing Broadway” proves she is still at the top of her game. We are very proud of Barbra and the Number 1 Aria Chart Debut this week in Australia”.

‘Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway’ was an all-star collaboration with some of the movie world’s biggest names. “I’m extremely happy to share this achievement with my brilliant movie partners: Alec Baldwin, Antonio Banderas, Jamie Foxx, Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman, Seth MacFarlane, Melissa McCarthy, Chris Pine, Daisy Ridley, Patrick Wilson, and my dear friend Anthony Newley. Also, special thanks to Bradley Cooper and my husband James Brolin for lending their speaking voices,” she said.

She also thanked her own team including longtime manager Marty Erlichman who has been working with Barbra for more than four decades on a handshake. “I especially want to thank my own tireless team — Marty Erlichman, Jay Landers, Walter Afanasieff, Bill Ross, Dave Reitzas, Ken Sunshine, and Renata Buser for all their talent and dedication.

“Finally, as always, I want to thank the loyal fans who have continued to support my music through the years. I’m very grateful to all of you”.

‘Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway’ is the third no 1 album for Barbra Streisand in Australia after ‘Guilty’ (1980) and ‘Partners’ (2014).
