David Bowie To Release Rebel Rebel 40th Anniversary Picture Disc

David Bowie’s classic ‘Rebel Rebel’ is about to turn 40 with the release of a limited edition 7” vinyl picture disc released to mark the occasion.

‘Rebel Rebel’ was Bowie’s first release after the demise of his band The Spiders from Mars. It was also the first taste of his upcoming album ‘Diamond Dogs’.

‘Diamonds Dogs’ was David Bowie’s eighth album.

‘Rebel Rebel’ was originally released on February 15, 1974. Bowie wrote the song initially for a Ziggy Stardust musical he was working on it 1973. It is considered Bowie’s last ‘Glam Rock’ song and it was the first song he released without longtime guitarist Mick Ronson.

Bowie retired the song from his live shows in 1999 but brought it back in 1999. It was part of his setlist for ‘Reality’, last world tour in 2003.

Bowie’s last ever show was on June 25, 2004 at the Hurricane Festival in Germany. He suffered chest pains during the show. The pain was from a blocked artery causing a heart attack. He has not played live since.

David Bowie laid low for the next 10 years, surfacing on his 66th birthday on January 6, 2013 to release his new song ‘Where Are They Now’. On March 8, 2013 he released ‘The Next Day’. It was his first album in a decade. ‘The Next Day’ topped the UK chart and peaked at no. 2 in Australia and the USA.
