in News

Historic live recordings from Billy Thorpe & The Aztecs Australian in 1994 have been released for the first time.

Aztecs drummer Gil Matthews has released ‘Lock Up Your Mothers Live’ on his own Aztec Records label.

The two-disc set features two concerts, the first from Seagulls at Tweed Heads and the second from Selinas at Coogee Bay, both from December 1994.

Matthews has digitally remastered the audio from both shows. The package includes a 24-page booklet by Ian MacFarlane.

Highlights of ‘Lock Up Your Mothers Live’ are a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘World Turning’ (Thorpe had the band The Zoo with Mick Fleetwood), Stevie Ray Vaughan’s ‘The Sky Is Crying’ and an Aztecs version of Warren Morgan’s ‘Captain Straightman’.

James Taylor Farewells Australia With Final Tour (Melbourne Review)

I could go to a James Taylor show just for the stories. The man is a part of music history and is still around to tell the tales of how it all began. Like, for instance, being the first artist signed to Apple Records. James “auditioned” for Apple with his song ‘Something In The Way She Moves’. "Paul went away and started the label and George went away and wrote the song”, he said.
