The National Indigenous Music Awards will pay respect to the late Dr Yunupingu with a Yothu Yindi Tribute at the ceremony in Darwin in August.

Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingi will headline the tribute with ‘Satellite Boy’ actor David Gulpilil also joining the show.

An all-star cast including Dr Yunupingu’s grandson Rrawun Maymurru and original members of Yothu Yindi will perform the band’s signature song ‘Treaty’.

Other guests include Grant Nundhirribala from NT band Yilila and Djolpa McKenzie from the Black Arm Band.

Last year’s NIMA winners The Medics featuring Kahl Wallace and Jhindu Lawrie will return with Bunna Lawrie of Coloured Stone to also pay their respects.
