Australian Charts: Rapper Post Malone Has No 1 Song

After two weeks at the top, Sam Smith gives way to US rapper Post Malone and his new track “Rockstar”, which debuted at No.8 last week and jumps up to No.1 in Australia giving him his first chart-topping single here, plus the track went to the top in New Zealand and Canada this week too.

“Rockstar” becomes the 1067th No.1 Single in Australia (1940 to 2017) and the 592nd for ARIA (1983 to 2017), plus the third for the Republic Record label, who had a massive 13 week running No.1 from mid-May in “Despacito” (TW-19). And whilst “Rockstar” is No.1 on the national chart, it is only at the top of the streaming chart at the moment, it drops from 18 to 24 on the digital sales chart.

This is the eighth song with a ‘Star’ in its title to hit No.1 in Australia, the last one being the Jamelia No.1 from March 2004, “Superstar” (1 wk), and the tenth with a ‘Rock’ within its title, the last was the first No.1 for 2017, “Rockabye” by Clean Bandits. Post Malone becomes the 191st Solo American Artist to hit the top here, and the song is the 408th by an American Act (solo, duo or group), and the new No.1 is also the 686th chart-topper performed by an American artist.

Remaining at No.2 for a second week is the Dua Lipa track “New Rules”, and climbing back up three places to No.3 is Macklemore and “Glorious” thanks to his new album also debuting at No.3, and his NRL Grand Final appearance on Sunday, plus he has the highest new entry at No.25 this week too. Former No.1 for Sam Smith and “Too Good at Goodbyes” drops down three places to No.4 and climbing two spots to a new peak of No.5 is Logic with Alessia Cara and Khalid and “1-800-273-8255”, which becomes Alessia’s second Top 5 hit in Australia (the Zedd teaming “Stay” hit No.3 in April 2017), the first Top 5 for Khalid, and now the highest charted song for Logic too.

Down one spot to No.6 are Imagine Dragons and “Thunder”, whilst climbing back up two places to a new peaks of No.7 and No.8 are Zayn and Sia with “Dusk Till Dawn” and “I Like Me Better” by Lauv respectively. Dropping six spots to No.9 is Taylor Swift with “Look What You Made Me Do”, and returning for a second week within the Top 10 is Demi Lovato and “Sorry, Not Sorry” (HP-8), back up two places to No.10.

UP:
* Last weeks NZ No.1 “Young, Dumb and Broke” by Khalid is up one spot to a new peak of No.13 here, and newly certified ▲Platinum in sales.
* Portugal, The Man and their first entry “Feel it Still” is up five places to No.15 and now Gold (●).
* Also cracking Gold (●) in sales is Camila Cabello with Young Thug and “Havana”, which leaps up eighteen spots to land within the Top 20 at No.16 also becoming her first solo Top 20 entry in Australia.
* Avicii’s “Without You” is up one spot to a new chart height of No.20.
* After a few slow weeks of climbing, the Maroon 5 and SZA song “What Lovers Do” is up six spots to a new peak of No.21.
* Holding at its peak of No.24 for a second week is “Silence” for Marshmello and Khalid, which is now Gold (●) in sales.
* Ed Sheeran is back up four spots to No.31 with “Shape of You”, which is now 9x▲Platinum, whilst leaping back up thirty-seven places to No.41 is “Perfect”, and he regains his ‘Longest Charted Single’ crown as “Thinking Out Loud” returns at No.93 for its 143rd week inside the Top 100.
* Back up four places to No.33 are J. Balvin and Willy William with “Mi Gente”.
* Post Malone might have the new No.1 single in the country, but his first entry “Congratulations” (HP-30) rises one spot to No.44 in its thirtieth week within the Top 100, and is now ▲Platinum.
* Three weeks ago Hailee Steinfeld debuted at No.50 with the Alesso track “Let Me Go”, which this week is back up seven spots to land at a new peak of No.49.
* On hold at No.50 are The Chainsmokers and Coldplay with “Something Just Like This”, which is newly certified 5x▲Platinum in sales.
* The new US No.1 single “Bodak Yellow” for Cardi B is up here eight spots to a new peak of No.53.
* Other than Ed’s ‘Thinking’ track, the only other re-entry is the Flume song “Never Be Like You” at No.91.

DOWN:
* Pink’s “What About Us” (HP-1×2, WI10-6) is the only song leaving the Top 10 this week, down seven places to No.11.
* With a new Kesha track debuting at No.25 (with Macklemore), her older track “Praying” drops down seven spots to No.22.
* Taylor Swift’s “…Ready for it?” drops again this week, down nine places to No.26.
* Rita Ora is down four spots to No.32 with “Your Song”, which is now 2x▲Platinum in sales.
* Both Top 50 entries for Niall Horan drop this week, with his older song “Slow Hands” down nine to No.34 and last weeks debut “Too Much to Ask” drops back twelve spots to No.35.
* Before this week new chart-topper by an American, the last US No.1 act was DJ Khaled with his ensemble of rappers and JB with “I’m the One”, which is down ten places to No.58 and now certified 4x▲Platinum.
* Rudimental and James Arthur’s collaboration “Sun Comes Up” is down four to No.63 and gains its first certification this week, newly Gold (●) in sales.
* The Peking Duk and AlunaGeorge track ” Fake Magic” falls fifteen places to No.69 this week.
* Zedd and Liam Payne with “Get Low” is down ten spots to No.81.
* Theres a twenty place drop to No.87 with the Major Lazer track “Know No Better”.
* After returning at No.82 last week, the Angus & Julia Stone track “Chateau” is down ten this week to No.82.
* Snakehips with Anne-Marie are down eleven spots to No.98 with “Either Way”.

NEW ENTRIES:
* #25 – Good Old Days by Macklemore and Kesha is the third track issued from the new Macklemore solo album “Gemini” which entered at No.3 this week, and this follows on from “Glorious” (HP-2, TW-3) and “Marmalade” (HP-80).

* #59 – A Different Way by DJ Snake feat Lauv becomes the seventh Top 100 entry in Australia for the French DJ, with this new track the lead from his second album (no date or title known as yet), and his first entry for 2017, he last charted in 2016 with “Let Me Love You” with Justin Bieber (HP-1).

* #74 – Stargazing (EP) by Kygo feat Justin Jesso is a five track EP containing the recent Kygo singles “It Ain’t Me” with Selena Gomez (HP-4, TW-82), “First Time” with Ellie Goulding (HP-29) and his remix of the new U2 track “You’re the Best Thing About Me”, plus the EP’s new entry with Justin Jesso.

* #84 – The Man by The Killers is the lead track from the fifth studio album “Wonderful Wonderful” by The Killers, which debuts at No.1 this week, and becomes the bands first singles chart entry since late July 2012’s “Runaways” (HP-67).

* #88 – Yesterday by 360 feat Hein Cooper is the first taste from the forthcoming fourth studio album for local rapper 360, his new set entitled “VINTAGÆ MØDERN”, no date known as yet for it, and this becomes his thirteenth Top 100 entry here too.

* #99 – DNA by BTS are a Korean boy-band who saw their first Top 10 action over on the albums chart last week with their EP “Love Yourself” (HP-8, TW-33), and this is their first singles chart entry too.
