Billy Joel Sets New Madison Square Garden Record

in News

Billy Joel will be playing at Madison Square Garden on January 9, a date that will set a new record for the venue.

It will be Joel’s thirteenth show in his current one-time-per-month series, breaking his own record of twelve shows that he set in 2006. According to Billboard, that series grossed $19.2 million and sold over 226,000 tickets. Through the first ten shows of this series, the gross has topped over $20 million with 186,000 tickets sold.

Joel will, most likely, continue to break his own record each month as further dates are added. Both the singer and Madison Square Garden have committed to a monthly show from Joel until the demand runs out.

Billy now has another record in his sites. The January show will be his 59th overall at Madison Square Garden, second only to his sometimes tour mate Elton John who has played at the venue 64 times. Joel would tie the record in May and break it in June if Elton does not sneak in another date or two.
