British rock royalty arrived in Hyde Park yesterday as Black Sabbath prepared to cast a night of darkness over another blazing hot day at British Summer Time Hyde Park.

On a day bursting with rock excellence, Soulfly, Motörhead, Faith No More and Soundgarden all took control of the Great Oak Stage. The Barclaycard Theatre saw The Bots, Broken Hands, UME, Hell and Wolfmother, with Buffalo Summer, A Plastic Rose, Hang The Bastard, Bo Ningen and Gallows in the Village Hall. Plus, there were sets from Turbowolf, The Struts and Blitz Kids on the Summer Stage.

But on the Great Oak Stage now it Black Sabbath time… Starting off with ‘War Pigs’ Ozzy and chums shook the gathered mass into an early frenzy. The backdrop all black, ‘Into The Void’ followed with ‘Snowblind’ and ‘Age of Reason’ close behind.

Ozzy peppered the set with cries of “I can’t f**king hear you” clearly in his element. “Let’s go back to the start” he continued as “Black Sabbath” was welcomed by fans with adoration.

A band with a hell of a lot still to give.

Another highlight included Whit Crane from Ugly Kid Joe performing ‘Killed by Death’ alongside Motörhead.

But it was Black Sabbath that attracted a whole host of celebrities, including : Johnny Depp and Rachel Hunter. Backtage, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary in a special Black Sabbath pre-show party, where they were joined by daughter Kelly and close friends.
