Cold Chisel Swingshift Gets A Well Deserved Vinyl Re-Release

Cold Chisel’s classic live album ‘Swingshift’ is back on vinyl, just like it originally came into the world.

‘Swingshift’ was recorded at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre and Melbourne’s Festival Hall during Cold Chisel’s ‘Youth In Asia’ tour of 1980. The cover was taken a show at the Manly Vale in April 1980 by Phillip Mortlock.

“I remember the Sydney show very well,” says songwriter and keyboard player Don Walker. “It was pretty much the highlight of that tour. By the time we did it we’d played the East album all over the country and this was bringing everything back home.”

The new vinyl edition of ‘Swingshift’ is the expanded version reissued in 2011 on CD. There are four songs on this edition that were not on the original vinyl version of 1981.

“We were like Stormtroopers marching across Australia,” said Jimmy Barnes. “We were on top of the world. The pace we were keeping was blistering. More towns, more girls, more booze, more drugs and all in less time. Longer sets, faster songs and even longer drives.”

‘Swingshift’ will be reissued on 26 October 2018.

Leo Sayer Shares His Thoughts on The Passing of Sly Stone

There really is a riot going on right now, so what a poignant moment it seems to be to lose a hero I never met, yet a man I often imagined as my soul brother. I worked with many of his alumni (including the man who helped invent him, fellow San Fran disk jockey Tom Donahue), and to say they and he inspired me would be a useless understatement.
