The Foo Fighters rocker weighed in on today’s music industry during a speech at Austin’s South by Southwest Music Festival yesterday.

Going against many pop critics, Dave unapologetically praised South Korean star Psy’s single.

“Fuck ”guilty pleasure!”” Dave is quoted as saying on rollingstone.com. “What about just pleasure? I can honestly say that Gangnam Style is one of my favourite songs of the last ten years.”

The legendary star also ridiculed the entertainment industry for American Idol style reality shows. Dave laughed about this as a standard for measuring talent.

“Imagine Bob Dylan singing Blowin’ in the Wind in front of Christina Aguilera,” Dave joked.

Dave discussed how he came to be part of grunge band Nirvana. The musician played the drums in the iconic rock group before forming Foo Fighters.

“They had songs. They had Kurt [Cobain]. What they didn’t have was a drummer,” Dave explained, adding he and frontman Kurt viewed music the same way. “It was honest, it was pure, it was real.”

After Kurt’s death in 1994, Dave spent 14 days recording solo material as part of his grieving process. This was what came to form the debut Foo Fighters album.

“I was writing songs about starting over,” he reflected.
