Don McLean Cancels Australian Tour Because Of Abuse Scandal

by Roger Wink, VVN Music on February 27, 2016

in Live,News

Don McLean has postponed his tour of Australia, set for March, for one year in the wake of his domestic abuse arrest.

McLean was arrested in January at his home in Camden, Maine and charged with domestic abuse after having an altercation with his wife, Patricia. An order of protection was requested by Patricia in a note that alleged abuse throughout the couple’s twenty year marriage. She added that her ability to make the 911 call on the night of the incident may have saved her life.

Patricia later had the order of protection rescinded and, it appeared, that the couple was trying to work things out in their relationship.

It is not known whether this was a decision on McLean’s part or ordered by the court as part of his conditions of release prior to trial. A statement was issued on his behalf:

Don McLean graciously accepts the willingness of the promoter to postpone the current tour to exactly the same time in 2017 in order to allow Don McLean and his family time to work at reuniting. This is an unprecedented moment in the family history. Don McLean thanks all his fans for their patience and love and he looks forward to seeing them next year.

According to sources, all of the shows will be made up on the same date in 2017; however, this may not be the case for one appearance dependent on next year’s schedule for the Bluesfest in Byron Bay.
