Joan Armatrading has clarified early reports that her final tour will be her exit from the music industry.

Armatrading says she is done with major tours but is not retiring. “I will never retire but this will be the last major tour that I will undertake,” she said in a statement. “For the first time these concerts will be me solo on stage playing the guitar, piano and singing. I want these concerts to be a special lively interactive one to one experience. I have absolutely enjoyed the last 42 years of performances but now, with my final major tour, I want to capture a unique memory for both myself and the audience.”

On her upcoming Australian tour Joan has sold out shows in Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne and has now added a final Melbourne show to her itinerary.

Joan Armatrading dates

December 4, Perth, Astor Theatre
December 7, Adelaide, The Gov (2 shows)
December 8, Melbourne, Recital Centre
December 9, Canberra, Theatre Centre
December 10, Sydney, Enmore Theatre

There really is a riot going on right now, so what a poignant moment it seems to be to lose a hero I never met, yet a man I often imagined as my soul brother. I worked with many of his alumni (including the man who helped invent him, fellow San Fran disk jockey Tom Donahue), and to say they and he inspired me would be a useless understatement.
