Rocker John Mayer has replaced his penchant for alcohol with marijuana.

John Mayer has only started to enjoy smoking pot in more recent years, after choosing to keep his mind clear and focused during the earlier part of his career, and he insists getting high has really helped him relax.

“I put it where drinking used to go,” he tells Rolling Stone magazine. “The quality of life has gone up considerably. Drinking is a fucking con. It always felt wrong.”

“I was always the guy saying that I didn’t like altered states,” he adds. “Once you know who you are, then it becomes OK. I’m much more open-minded to small changes in consciousness. I remember every trip I took. I remember every thought I ever had when I laid there.”

John’s maturity has also extended to the way he approaches his love life, after previously hitting headlines for describing sex with his former girlfriend Jessica Simpson as “sexual napalm”.

His most recent ex, pop star Katy Perry, recently named John the best lover she’s had of late, but when asked to comment on the high praise, the rocker chose not to give much away.

“I don’t have a cool enough thought for you,” he says. “I’ve hacked this game. I pay very little for the price of fame now… I’m having the time of my life. I’m 39 – I remember 32. I don’t wanna do it again.”

However, Mayer has previously spoken about his difficulty getting over the relationship with Perry, revealing his single Still Feel Like Your Man is about her.

“Who else would I be thinking about?” he said in an interview with the New York Times in March (17). “And by the way, it’s a testament to the fact that I have not dated a lot of people in the last five, six years. That was my only relationship.”
