Julia Jacklin on her place in a Pop dominated music world

Australian singer songwriter Julia Jacklin is a realist when it comes to working in the Pop dominated music industry.

With studio created music products like Cardi B and Nicki Minaj all around her, Julia sees the business as one big factory.

“I think we are all manufactured,” Julia tells Noise11.com. “I think Cardi B is great and very honest on Instagram. There are a lot of curated, very PR trained people in the music industry. I am a folk artist. It is a very different genre. It’s all about the times we are in and how we feel about the time. I am loving the state of music right now. A lot of my peers are making incredible, honest, good recorded stuff”.

Regardless of her admission of a manufactured world Julia is hands on when it comes to her career and she says its important to think globally. “I like seeing things through all the way,” she says. “When you just play Australia it is easy to get a big head. I’ll play a big show here and then go and play to 20 people in Boston. I love having different shows, different audiences, and how much people know of you. It keeps you challenged and keeps your head screwed on”.

Julia has built up a great team around her. “I have a manager but I think it is important to know what is going on,” she says. “Touring takes up so much energy so its good to know when to step back and let people take on things. I like to know what is going on”.

For Julia Jacklin, the career is a work in progress. “Touring and the length of time I have done it has been humbling and great,” she says.

Julia Jacklin released her album ‘Crushing’ last week.
