Keith Richards will publish his second book later this year. ‘Gus & Me: The Story Of My Granddad And My First Guitar’ will be a children’s book.

Theodore Augustus ‘Gus’ Dupree will tell the story of Keith as a kid and the times he spent with this granddad who used to be in a jazz band.

Gus Dupree was the man who inspired Keith to pick up his first guitar. Keith has decided to tell the story to young children via the picture book and inspire them to become musical.

“I have just become a grandfather for the fifth time, so I know what I’m talking about,” Keith said in a statement. “The bond, the special bond, between kids and grandparents is unique and should be treasured. This is a story of one of those magical moments. May I be as great a grandfather as Gus was to me.”

Keith Richards has five of his own grandchildren.

Barnaby Harris and Bill Shapiro worked with Keith to create to book. “When I found out they wanted me to be a part of this project, my immediate instinct was to say yes, and I am so happy I did,” he said. “To be able to explore my father’s relationship with his grandfather was a gift in itself. The things that I’ve learnt during this whole process have just been life-affirming.”

Keith’s daughter Theodora has drawn all of the illustrations for the book. Theodora Richards was named after her great grandfather.

In 2010 Keith Richards released his best-selling autobiography ‘Life’.

‘Gus & Me: The Story Of My Granddad And My First Guitar’ will be released in September through Little Brown Books.

Keith and the Rolling Stones will perform in Shanghai, China tonight (March 12, 2014).
