Keith Richards Turns 70

by Paul Cashmere on December 18, 2013

in News

Keith Richards, happy birthday to you. The Rolling Stones rhythm guitarist is celebrating his 70th birthday today, December 18.

Richards is the last of the founding Stones members to turn 70. Bill Wyman is now 77, Charlie Watts is 72, Mick Jagger is 70 and Brian Jones would have been 71 this year.

There is still a bit of youth left in the band. Mick Taylor, who replaced Jones after his death in 1969 and who is back currently touring with the band, is 64. Ron Wood, who replaced Taylor in 1975, is 66.

Keith Richards has been in the Rolling Stones for all of his working life. He first played with the Rollin’ Stones (as they were billed at the time) at the band’s very first gig on 12 July, 1962 at the Marquee Club in London. The original line-up was Keith Richards, Mick Jagger, Brian Jones, Dick Taylor and Ian Stewart.

Taylor left within a year and formed The Pretty Things.
