KISS has laid claim to the title of American group with the most Gold Albums.

The emphasis is on the word ‘American group’. Solo artists and international acts push KISS well down the list.

The rockers, in conjunction with the RIAA, sent out a press release on Tuesday announcing their accomplishment, a total which includes 26 gold albums along with four gold solo albums all released on the same date in 1978, although the RIAA does not include those solo works in their total.

RIAA Chairman and CEO Cary Sherman said “Congratulations to KISS – the new Gold standard for albums by American bands. What an extraordinary achievement for an enduring band. Forty years later and the band is still rocking. Congratulations to KISS on their Gold album milestone and continued success.”

They are trailed by Aerosmith who has 25 gold albums.
