Simon Cowell Quits Smoking For His Son

Simon Cowell doesn’t know what he would do if his son asked him to give up his “worst vice”.

Cowell has been puffing away for years, smoking 40-a-day at the height of his habit, but since welcoming his son Eric on Valentine’s Day (14Feb) in 2014 with partner Lauren Silverman, the 56 year old has tried to cut back on the cigarettes. But he isn’t sure he could quit for good.

“I have cut down,” he told Britain’s The Mirror newspaper. “If Eric grows up and says stop it, I don’t know what I would do. I don’t smoke around him and I wouldn’t do that. I have thought about what he might say in a few years. It is my worst vice.”

Simon added that he is down to 10 cigarettes a day now, since becoming a father. But there are times when he would like to up his intake, particularly during the Judges Houses stage of his hit UK talent show The X Factor. This year Simon will be joined by One Direction star Louis Tomlinson to pick his final acts and he confided in the singer about how hard it is to stop smoking.

“I was saying to Louis, ‘This is the one thing I would find very difficult to give up because I do love a cigarette’,” he added. “A cigarette and a beer.”

Since welcoming Eric into his life, Simon admits he has changed in many ways. Having previously been known for his no-nonsense approach to finding new talent, the star admits his little boy has mellowed him.

“Eric has made a massive difference because I wasn’t expecting that, and I didn’t know what that would bring to my life,” he smiled. “He is so much fun.”

Simon has regularly gushed about his little boy since his arrival. Last year (14) he admitted Eric had transformed his home in a number of ways.

“I guess there is a new energy, yeah,” he told the Irish Mirror. “It definitely feels more like a home. There’s more of a nice atmosphere.”
