Nick Jonas Embraces Kingdom

Nick Jonas is willing to go wherever he needs to go with his Kingdom character.

The Jealous singer stars as MMA fighter Nate Kulina in the DirecTV drama. His alter ego is confused about his sexuality, seeking solace in the arms of a man at the end of season one. With series two in the works, the 22-year-old is happy to explore where his character goes from there.

‘He’s still trying to figure it out, and it’ll be a journey for sure,” he told ET Online. “I’m willing to go wherever I need to go with the story and we’ll figure it out when we get there, I guess.”

His role in the programme shocked fans, not just because of the character’s sexuality, but also Nick’s physical transformation. To play the fighter, who specialises in wrestling and grappling, the singer had to gain 15 pounds of muscle to portray him accurately.

Nick had to go from a daily caloric intake of 3,000 calories to 4,200 calories and he spent hours in the gym to get ripped for the role.

But when it came to some of the shows more risqué scenes, the star had to slim back down, which was just as tough.

‘Basically it just consists of drinking a lot of water, cutting out sodium,” he said. “And it’s just a lot of sweat. A lot of sweat.’

Nick’s transformation from member of the Jonas Brothers to hunky pop star has been a surprise in the last few years. The band – made up of his siblings Joe and Kevin – were famed for wearing purity rings, and despite his change in attitude towards sex before marriage, Nick has no regrets about wearing the band.

‘Am I still a virgin? No,’ he told Wendy Williams on her talk show last year. ‘I am an adult in all ways and I am comfortable with who I am. I don’t regret [wearing a purity ring]. I think that it was an important part of my childhood.’
