Stevie Nicks Talks Women In Music

Stevie Nicks thinks women in music cast “a romantic spell”.

The singer found fame with her band Fleetwood Mac, which she joined in 1975, as well as having a successful solo career.

Along with their catchy songs the band are known for their love lives, as Stevie was in a relationship with fellow member Lindsey Buckingham and also had an affair with founding member Mick Fleetwood, while Christine McVie married bassist John McVie. Despite the intense environment, Stevie feels her and Christine’s involvement helped the band become the success they are today.

“Well, I think every band should have a girl in it, because it’s always going to make for more cooler stuff going on than if it’s just a bunch of guys. It’s ultimately more romantic, no matter what,” she explained to Mojo magazine. “Even if nobody is getting together, it still casts a romantic spell.

“[The relationships were] totally important and everybody is still writing about everybody else. It will never stop.”

Even now the band are still touring together, performing classic tracks such as Don’t Stop, Dreams and Go Your Own Way.

Their 11th album Rumours is considered their most famous, boasting the above songs, and Stevie recalls how organised the recording process was amid tensions.

“We were actually very grown up about what we took into the studio and what we left out in the lounge,” she added. “I think that even if we had a bad night the night before, a bad argument where we were staying, or in the car, when we walked through the doors of the actual studio, we tried very hard to leave it outside.”
