SXSW will showcase 55 Australian acts at the music conference in Austin, Texas in March.
The 55 figure is expected to grow as there are still another six acts who are yet to confirm or withdraw.
SXSW Australian rep Phil Tripp says the number of Australian acts showcasing in Austin this year is a record figure and will represent the largest number even of Australian artists in one American city at the one time. “We have so many bands because Australian music is performance-based live at the crash barriers, not cloned in auto-tune studio cubicles,” Tripp said. “Our film makers are world class and our interactive software and online entrepreneurs are in high demand overseas. SXSW has been the catalyst for this Australian Invasion of talent for over a decade of momentum and we’re ready to explode in 2014.”
Over 550 Australian delegates have also confirmed to attend the music conference in Texas,
SXSW features over 100 venues with more than 2000 artists from 55 countries performing at the event.
SXSW Music will take place from March 11-16, 2014.
