The Kanye West Bowie Covers Story Was Tabloid Bullshit

Kanye West has apparently insisted he has “no plans” to record a David Bowie tribute album.

It was rumoured earlier this week that Kanye was planning to honour the singer, who died earlier this month (10Jan16) after losing his battle with cancer, by laying down his own versions of David’s legendary tracks.

“Some are straightforward covers with Kanye actually singing,” a source told the Daily Star newspaper. “On others he is rapping with his own lyrics over Bowie’s music.”

Following the reports, fans of the Space Oddity singer were quick to slam the idea, and even started a petition as an attempt to stop the record.

Peter Piranha’s petition, entitled ‘Stop Kanye West recording covers of David Bowie’s music’, accuses Kanye of being a “talentless a**ewipe who couldn’t lace David’s boots”.

To date it has more than 6,000 signatures.

However, sources close to father-of-two Kanye told TMZ that while he respects David’s legacy, he has no intention of recording such an album.

The rapper paid his own tribute to David following the singer’s death, writing on his Twitter page: “David Bowie was one of my most important inspirations, so fearless, so creative, he gave us magic for a lifetime.”

Kanye is instead putting the finishing touches on his own album, SWISH, which is due for release on February 11 (16).

During a recent interview with Rolling Stone magazine, rapper Pusha T spoke about the upcoming record, admitting what he has heard of it is “phenomenal”.

During an interview with Rolling Stone, Pusha T was asked about the album. The Virginia rapper revealed that although he didn’t work on the album, everything he’s heard has been “phenomenal.”

“Everything I’ve heard is phenomenal and it has nothing to do with any of the other records that were released before,” he said. “That’s all I can really say about it. He’s super meticulous about the messaging about his album, but you guys are in for a treat.”
