Warner Music will release a 2-disc compilation documenting the music of Greenwich Village in the 60s.

Greenwich Village in lower Manhattan was the central point of folk music in the early 60s. Bob Dylan’s famous ‘The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan’ album cover was shot on Jones St near 4th Street near his home at the time in the Village.

In one of his Rolling Stone interviews John Lennon said, “I should have been born in New York, I should have been born in the Village, that’s where I belong.”

According to Warner Music, “Sub-titled “Beginnings and Branches of the New York Folk Revival”, Greenwich Village In The ‘60s takes a comprehensive look at the epicentre of the folk scene that impacted the world in the ‘60s and beyond. It features approximately 40 artists who either preceded or followed Bob Dylan, whose track ‘Talkin’ New York’ opens the collection. It covers similar ground to the new Coen Brothers film “Inside Llewyn Davis” and its T-Bone Burnett-produced soundtrack; indeed it features earlier versions of some of the material from the film”.
