Rashad Owens, the hit and run driver who crashed into SXSW attendees on a crowded Austin street in March has been hit with an increased bail and additional charges.

Owens’ bail is now set at $5.5 million and he now faces four new charges of assault after killing four people and injuring 17 others on March 13 during the SXSW music conference in Austin, Texas.

Jamie West, 27, and Steve Craenmehr, 35, died at the scene while Sandy Thuy Le, 26, and DeAndre tatum, died later of their injuries.

Austin Police arrested Owens shortly afterwards after he fled the scene of the crime. Austin police Chief Art Acevedo later said that Owens showed no remorse and that the incident was “intentional”.

Under Texas law, two counts of capital murder will attract an immediate death sentence.
