Bon Scott Statue To Be Unveiled 6 March In AC/DC Lane

A statue honouring Bon Scott will be unveiled in AC/DC Lane Melbourne on 6 March.

Street Artist Mike Makatron has been commissioned to create the work of art for the City of Melbourne. “I’ve painted the laneway annually for about five years now – always a varied interpretation of the theme of music and it’s an honour to add a permanent 3D element that pays tribute to a great Australian rock and roll band and its lead singer Bon Scott, but also to music in general,” Makatron said in a statement.

The Bon Scott statue is part of the Victorian Government’s ‘Rockin’ The Laneways’ Initiative. Makatron collaborated with Cherry Bar owner James Young for the piece.

Bon Scott grew up in the western suburbs of Melbourne in Sunshine after migrating from Scotland at age 6. AC/DC lived in Melbourne in the mid-seventies. A stone’s throw from AC/DC Lane is Swanston Street where the band famously shot their classic ‘It’s A Long Way To The Top (If You Want To Rock n Roll)’ film clip on the back of a flat bed truck.

The official unveiling will be at 11am on 6 March 2018 in AC/DC Lane, Melbourne.
