Buddy Guy Awarded Lifetime Achievement Award

Blues legend Buddy Guy is the fifth recipient of the National GUITAR Museum’s Lifetime Achievement Award. He follows in the footsteps of David “Honeyboy” Edwards (2010), Roger McGuinn (2011), B.B. King (2012) and Vic Flick, the guitarist behind the music of James Bond (2013).

HP Newquist (right, with Guy), Executive VP Director of the museum said “Buddy Guy is the most important link between blues guitar and rock and roll. The raw and aggressive style of playing he developed onstage and in studios directly influenced Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Only a handful of guitarists in history have had that kind of effect on guitar playing. We’re honored to recognize Buddy’s contribution to the guitar with this award.”

Buddy Guy’s career started in Chicago in the late-50’s and has spanned up to today with the release of a number of classic blues albums in just the past two decades. He is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and has won three Grammys.

The National GUITAR Museum “was founded to promote and preserve the legacy of the guitar. It is the world’s first museum dedicated to the history, evolution, and cultural impact of the guitar.” Museum advisers include Richie Blackmore, Liona Boyd, Steve Howe, Tony Iommi, Pat Kirtley, Steve Vai and Joe Bonamassa. Until his death, Joe Cocker was also an adviser.

The museum currently does not have a permanent facility but does have a touring show, GUITAR: The Instrument That Rocked The World, that has been on the road since February 2011 and will visit the following cities in the future.
