Charlie Puth Battles Performance Through Illness

Charlie Puth halted his gig in Los Angeles on Tuesday to thank the doctors who helped him beat illness to make it on stage.

The 26-year-old musician, who was born in New Jersey but moved to L.A. in his early 20s to further his career, played a gig at his adopted city’s famous Greek Theatre.

However, he very nearly didn’t make it after being struck down with sickness.

According to Billboard.com, the popstar paused midway through his set and revealed: “Really quickly, about 10 a.m. this morning, I was in the doctor’s office. I wasn’t going to be able to sing tonight.”

The Attention singer also thanked fans for giving him a pick-me-up in the middle of his gruelling Voicenotes tour, adding: “We’ve been doing back-to-back-to-back shows. Thanks for your energy as well.”

Charlie, who has been on the road in North America since early July and won’t take a break until September, also gave his doctors another shout out at the end of the gig.

Before performing his hit How Long, the pop sensation opened up about his struggle with fame since his 2016 debut album Nine Track Mind made him one of the world’s hottest young acts.

“Four years ago, I told my parents I was going to come to California,” he said. “The goal for me was to be just a successful producer and songwriter, one that writes music for others. Anyway, four years later, this is happening. This next record is about how celebrity almost clouded my brain. I surrounded myself with my family and they got me out of that mess.”

Health permitting, Charlie is due to return to the stage in Irvine, California on Wednesday night.
