David Crosby Has Best Debut In 43 Years in the USA

David Crosby’s ‘Croz’ album has given the music legend his best debut in 43 years. However, the news is not so bright for Bruce Springsteen.

The premier of David Crosby’s first solo album in 21 years, Croz, has generated at debut at no 36 on the Billboard chart. The album is only Crosby’s fourth solo set. It is also his second best showing behind 1971’s If I Could Only Remember My Name which peaked at 12.

It’s hard to know what is happening with Bruce Springsteen’s U.S. audience. His latest album, High Hopes, remains in the top three in most European countries while, in America, it drops from 8 to 29 in its third week of release.

Classic American rock, R&B and blues artists have traditionally had a much greater audience and appreciation from European audiences but Springsteen has been a notable exception. His albums have regularly done as well, or better, in his home country but this one seems to be a notable exception. It will be interesting to see if the sales can level out in the coming weeks.

The Grateful Dead debut at 30 with Dave’s Picks Volume 9: Harry Adams Field House, U. Of Montana, MT. 5/14/74; however, don’t expect the album to be on the charts for more than another week or two. It is a limited edition set released by the band through their website and is now sold out.

Billboard is also listing the Who’s Who’s Next as a debut at 163. It may be the first time the album has been on the charts in the digital era but that has not traditionally meant that the “weeks on the chart” number has been reset.

The Frozen soundtrack remains at the top of the Album chart followed by the 2014 Grammy Nominees album, Lorde’s Pure Heroine, Of Mice and Men’s Restoring Force and Beyonce.

The Singles chart is once again topped by Dark Horse by Katy Perry Featuring Juicy J, Drunk in Love by Beyonce Featuring Jay-Z and Timber by Pitbull Featuring Ke$ha.

Other Billboard charts where a veteran artist is at number 1:
Bluegrass Albums – Only Me – Rhonda Vincent
Reggae Albums – Reincarnated – Snoop Lion
World Albums – Eve – Angelique Kidjo
Tastemaker Albums – Croz – David Crosby
