If you are heading to Soundwave Melbourne wear hiking shoes. There will be no public transport including trains, trams or buses to the Melbourne event next weekend.

Soundwave has broken the unwelcome news to patrons this weekend with a note at the Soundwave website saying, “Due to other citywide commitments, Public Transport Victoria has advised that no public transport will be made available for the 2015 Soundwave Event. This includes all train, tram and bus services to and from the venue”.

The situation is expected to create chaos for punters especially after the event. Although Soundwave will put on shuttle buses (at an additional cost) to Footscray and North Melbourne the buses are not guaranteed to reach either destination. “Please Note: If either station is deemed to be at full capacity after the show, the Soundwave Shuttles may be diverted to the alternate station without warning,” a disclaimer at the Soundwave site states.

Alternative transporting option for the day are to drive to the event. However parking will be $30 per day plus booking fee and must be pre-booked.

There is also a Park and Ride option with parking at nearby Moonee Valley Racecourse and then a shuttle bus to the event. Again you must pre-book that option and pay $15 a day plus booking fee.

Soundwave also warn that “These are the ONLY parking options available to Soundwave patrons. Parking illegally in surrounding streets / suburbs will incur heavy fines! Council officers will be patrolling and issuing parking infringement notices”.

For people not going to Soundwave, Soundwave organisers advise to stay away from the area. “With the increased number of shuttle busses and event vehicles on the road, we are advising all to expect delays and to avoid the area completely where possible”.

Soundwave Melbourne is February 21 and 22 and Melbourne Showground.
