Keith Richards Yet To Nail Jumping Jack Flash Live

Keith Richards says he is yet to “nail” ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash’ live and calls the song “the beautiful challenge”.

Triple M’s Lee Simon spoke with Keith Richards in a lead-up to the Australian tour.

“I always love to play ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash’”, Keith told Lee Simon. “I still haven’t nailed him and every time I say ‘tonight I’m gonna kill that mutha’. He is always the beautiful challenge to play. ‘Tumblin’ Dice’ is another one that I just love to play. It is just a sweet thing to play and you are never short of just finding different ways of doing it. As long as the song lives for me I love them all. ‘Street Fighting Man’ is an incredible thing to play. ‘Beast of Burden’, when it comes down to it I love them all”.

For all the great songs he has written, Keith says there are millions he wished he had written. “I wish I had written ‘Little Queenie’, Chuck Berry, or ‘Memphis Tennessee’ which I think is one of the most beautiful songs and records ever made,” he said. “I’d have loved to have written ‘Long Tall Sally’. There’s a million songs out there and I think it’s the ones that you wish you had written yourself are the ones that inspire you to go for it”.

Keith Richards sees himself more as a medium than a songwriter. “I never really felt like I wrote them or created them. They come to you and you order it up a bit and then you put it on. I feel like a medium when it comes to songwriting as if I’m receiving, I sort it out and then I transmit,” he told Lee Simon.

Kraftwerk Beam Down Into Melbourne Captain’s Log Stardate 0812230830pm #REVIEW

I wasn’t quite prepared for the “strap in and enjoy the ride’ experience of Kraftwerk. I hadn’t seen them live since the Big Day Out of 2003. It was still light when they came in, in the tent (not the outdoor stage) and they were wearing suits. Someone at the time commented that it was like watching four businessmen in the Qantas Club sending emails to each other.

At one point Jackson Browne commented how he “doesn’t think of himself as 75 and doesn’t think of his beard as grey” but that is what a lifetime of success will do to you. For many people in the room (including myself) who started the Jackson Browne journey with his first album in 1972, this show delivered a deep dive across the entire career.

Paul McCartney Is Getting Better All The Time At Most Likely His Last Ever Melbourne Show #Review

The Beatles played six concerts in Melbourne on that one and only Australian tour of 1964, two shows each on the 15, 16 and 17th of June. The next time Paul was in Melbourne was for two Wings concerts on 13 and 14 November, 1975. There were two MCG concerts on 9 and 10 March, 1993, and two AAMI Park shows on 6 and 7 December, 2017. 21 October, 2023 at Marvel Stadium was special. It was the 13th and most likely the last time Sir Paul McCartney will ever perform in Melbourne, Australia.
