Marilyn Manson will return to Australia in February 2027 for his first headline tour in 12 years. The five-show visit also recalls an unlikely television encounter with Tim Minchin and David Duchovny on Californication, when three very different performers found themselves sharing the same rock ‘n’ roll universe.
Marilyn Manson will return to Australia in February 2027 for five headline performances, marking his first Australian headline shows since 2015. The tour will take the industrial rock performer to Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney, including two nights at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre.
The Australian return brings back an artist whose career has been defined by theatrical provocation, industrial metal, controversial imagery and a catalogue that helped reshape alternative music in the 1990s. It also provides an opportunity to revisit one of the more unusual intersections between Australian entertainment and Hollywood, when Manson appeared alongside Australian performer Tim Minchin and actor David Duchovny in the sixth season of Californication.
The connection came about through Manson’s genuine enthusiasm for the Showtime comedy-drama. Duchovny, who played novelist Hank Moody, revealed in interviews that Manson had been using the name Hank Moody when checking into hotels. Manson had also been in contact with Californication creator Tom Kapinos for years, and the conversations eventually developed into an invitation to appear on the programme.
The result was a guest appearance in the sixth season, in an episode titled The Dope Show. Broadcast in March 2013, the seventh episode brought Manson into the fictional world of Atticus Fetch, the outrageous rock star played by Minchin.
Fetch is a musician whose excesses and unpredictable behaviour provide much of the comedy in the season. Hank Moody becomes involved in helping him develop a Broadway rock musical, creating an environment in which Manson’s appearance as himself was an entirely natural fit for the show’s deliberately exaggerated entertainment industry.
Manson’s scenes with Duchovny played on the contrast between the fictional novelist and the real-life rock star. The humour came from Manson’s willingness to embrace the absurdity of the situation while maintaining the deadpan persona that had become part of his public identity.
Minchin was already an established presence in the season, appearing across ten episodes as Atticus Fetch. His character gave the Australian performer an opportunity to combine musical performance, comedy and acting in a major American television production.
In a 2020 interview with The Music’s Green Room podcast, Minchin reflected on his experience working with both Manson and Duchovny.
He described Manson as a really great guy, while also acknowledging the eccentricities that can accompany extreme fame. Minchin’s observation was that celebrity can create a peculiar relationship with public opinion, leaving even successful performers vulnerable to the expectations and judgements of others.
His assessment of Duchovny was equally complimentary. Minchin described the actor as a fantastic guy who had managed to remain grounded despite decades of international recognition.
Duchovny has also spoken warmly about the experience of working with Minchin. In interviews, he praised the Australian’s musical talent and described the Californication season as an opportunity to work with an unusually accomplished performer.
The musical connection between the three extended beyond their television scenes.
Duchovny recalled performing with Manson during the Californication production period, including a memorable musical gathering involving the show’s cast and guests. Manson, Duchovny and other musicians shared the stage, providing a real-life rock moment that was a long way removed from the fictional excesses of the series.
It was an unusual combination of personalities. Manson had built a career around industrial rock and theatrical confrontation. Minchin was developing an international reputation through piano-driven comedy, songwriting and musical theatre. Duchovny, best known for acting, was also establishing himself as a recording artist and songwriter.
Their musical paths have remained distinctly different.
Manson’s catalogue includes three defining albums of the 1990s: Antichrist Superstar, Mechanical Animals and Holy Wood (In The Shadow Of The Valley Of Death). Those records established his position as one of the most recognisable figures in industrial and alternative metal, combining heavy guitars, electronic textures and elaborate conceptual themes.
His more recent work includes One Assassination Under God – Chapter 1, released in 2024, followed by One Assassination Under God – Chapter 2 in 2025. Together, the two releases continue his exploration of religious imagery, power, identity and personal conflict.
For the Australian shows, the expectation is a career-spanning performance drawing from the catalogue that established Manson internationally alongside material from his latest recording period.
The February dates follow an extensive international touring schedule across North America, Europe, the United Kingdom and South America.
The return will be particularly notable for Australian fans who last had the opportunity to see Manson headline locally in 2015. The five performances will provide the first Australian headline opportunity in more than a decade.
The tour opens at Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall on 21 February before moving to Melbourne’s PICA on 23 February and Adelaide’s Entertainment Centre Theatre on 24 February. Sydney receives the final two performances at the Enmore Theatre on 26 and 27 February.
The Californication connection remains an entertaining footnote in the careers of three performers who rarely occupy the same musical territory. For Australian audiences, however, February 2027 is about Manson returning to the stage, with a catalogue that stretches from the early shock-rock era through to his latest recordings.
