Miami Tries To Stop Duran Duran Concert Happening

The government of Miami-Dade County are trying to stop a Duran Duran concert.

It’s not the band or the music. The issue is the use of a public park for a commercial concert.

At issue is a show in conjunction with the Miami Open tennis tournament at the city’s Crandon Park that is to be held after the tournament ends on Friday night April 1. Jack Kardys, head of parks, recreation and open space for Miami-Dade County, wrote “The County has been made aware that your firm, International Players Championship (IPC) intends to host a concert on April 1, 2016, featuring Duran Duran. Accordingly, as it is currently envisioned, IPC may not use the Crandon Park Tennis Center for the Duran Duran concert.”

More than the show being run by the tournament coordinators, the issues appears to be that the decision was made for it to be held during the tournament but as a separate event. A concert specific ticket is needed to see Duran Duran with prices running from $60 and up.

Still, the county has not taken a firm stance. Kardys wrote to tournament organizers “As you are aware, the County is committed to the success of the Miami Open and we welcome the opportunity to work with you to resolve this issue.”
