Jay-Z Responds To Beyonce In Song

Rapper Jay Z has acknowledged his wife Beyonce’s headline-grabbing new album Lemonade in a new rap verse.

Beyonce released the visual album in April (16) and stunned fans with lyrics appearing to hint at problems, including infidelity and betrayal, in her eight-year marriage to the rapper.

It was rumoured that Jay Z was working on his own album to explain his own side of events, but in his first public acknowledgement of Lemonade, he doesn’t address the allegations Beyonce made in her songs.

In the new rap verse on a remix of Fat Joe and Remy Ma’s All the Way Up, he simply references the album title, the late icon Prince, and apparently acknowledges the infamous Met Gala elevator incident in 2014, in which Beyonce’s sister Solange Knowles lashed out at him.

“You know you made it when the fact/Your marriage made it is worth millions/Lemonade is a popular drink and it still is,” he opens up his verse.

He also mentions, “Prince left his masters where they safe and sound/We never gonna let the elevator take him down.”

The last line could also be a reference to the nature of Prince’s death in April (16). The Purple Rain star’s body was found in the elevator of his home in Minnesota. His back catalogue can only be found on Jay Z’s streaming service Tidal.

When Lemonade was released, the line “Becky with the good hair” grabbed the headlines as fans tried to uncover who Jay Z had allegedly been unfaithful with. Both fashion designer Rachel Roy and Jay Z’s protege Rita Ora publicly denied being Becky.
