Nickelback have released Leave Me Behind, the third preview of their upcoming album Everything Under The Sun, due October 30 through Virgin Music Group.

Nickelback have released their new single Leave Me Behind, the third song issued from their upcoming eleventh studio album Everything Under The Sun, which will be released on October 30, 2026 through Virgin Music Group. The song follows Rattle The Cage featuring John 5 and Bones For The Crows, giving an early indication of the range of material on the Canadian band’s first album since 2022.
Where Rattle The Cage placed the emphasis on heavy guitar riffs and a guest appearance from Mötley Crüe guitarist John 5, Leave Me Behind takes a more reflective approach. The song centres on loyalty, emotional support and the difficulty of helping somebody through a period of personal struggle while maintaining a connection with them.
Chad Kroeger describes the song as being about carrying some of another person’s burden while also confronting the fear of being abandoned.
“There’s a lot of weight in this song, but there’s also a lot of hope,” Kroeger says. “It’s about being there for someone when they’re dealing with the things that have broken them down, picking up the pieces, taking some of that weight off their shoulders, and reminding them they don’t have to go through it alone.”
The song’s central lyrical idea is captured in the lines “Spit out the poison and leave it behind” and “Just don’t leave me behind.” Together, they establish the tension at the centre of the track: encouraging someone to move beyond destructive experiences while asking them not to sever the relationship in the process.
Leave Me Behind is the latest indication that Everything Under The Sun will not be confined to one particular version of Nickelback. Rattle The Cage established the heavier end of the record, while Leave Me Behind provides a more emotionally driven counterpart. The previously released Bones For The Crows adds another piece to the picture.
Everything Under The Sun follows Get Rollin’, Nickelback’s tenth studio album, released in 2022. Get Rollin’ debuted at No. 3 on the Australian ARIA Albums Chart, extending the band’s long run of Top 10 albums in Australia. It was also their first album of new material since 2017’s Feed The Machine.
The new record was co-produced by Kroeger and longtime collaborator Chris Baseford. It is also Nickelback’s first album through Virgin Music Group, following their previous two studio releases through BMG.
The album’s development comes after a particularly visible period for Nickelback. The band’s documentary Hate To Love: Nickelback brought renewed attention to their history and public image, while the Get Rollin’ World Tour became the fastest-selling and highest-attended tour of their career.
That period has also placed the band’s catalogue in a different commercial environment. Nickelback’s established recordings have continued to attract substantial streaming audiences, while songs including How You Remind Me, Photograph, Rockstar, Far Away and Someday remain central to their identity as a global rock act.
Formed in Hanna, Alberta, Nickelback have now been together for more than three decades. Kroeger, Ryan Peake, Mike Kroeger and Daniel Adair have built a catalogue that has generated nearly 60 million album sales worldwide and billions of streams. The band has also received multiple Grammy Award nominations, American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards and JUNO Awards.
Their place in Canadian music history was formally recognised with their induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2024. They have also achieved Diamond certification in both Canada and the United States, placing their commercial performance among the highest levels reached by recording artists in those markets.
Everything Under The Sun therefore represents a continuation rather than a retrospective exercise. The album follows a period in which Nickelback’s catalogue has been reassessed through documentary exposure, streaming and large-scale touring, while the band continues to create new material.
Leave Me Behind provides a different entry point to the forthcoming record from the harder-edged Rattle The Cage. Its focus on vulnerability and loyalty places the songwriting rather than the guitar attack at the centre, while retaining the melodic rock approach that has been a defining part of Nickelback’s catalogue.
Everything Under The Sun will be released on October 30, 2026 through Virgin Music Group.
