NZ comedian Rhys Darby has been given his own show on the tele.

Darby has signed on to star in ‘Wrecked’ for the American TBS channel.

‘Wrecked’ sounds like it is a modern day ‘Gilligan’s Island’. The show is about a group of people who survive a plane crash and adjust to life on a remote island.

The show was written by Justin Shipley and Jordan Shipley.

Darby plays Steve, a jovial fellow who is travelling with his giant dog, who also luckily survives the crash and provides comedy relief for the show.

Other stars include Zach Cregger as the flight attendant, Ginger Gonzaga as Emma and Jessica Lowe as Florence, two friends who were travelling to Thailand, ASif Ali as Pack, a sports agent, Ally Maki and Will Greenberg as Jess and Ted who have a struggling relationship they thought they could fix with a holiday, Brooke Dillman plays internet guru Karen, George Basil is Chet, the drunk who didn’t know they had crashed until after he wakes up and Brian Sacca is Danny the cop.

The show focuses on the survivor’s struggles with coping without phones, wi-fi, internet and plumbing in real life.

Rhys Darby relocated his family to Los Angeles in mid 2014. Darby made his name as Murray Hewitt in ‘Flight of the Conchords’ and has had small parts in ‘How I Met Your Mother’, ‘Hot In Cleveland’ and ‘Modern Family’.

Darby starred in the movies ‘Yes Man’ and ‘The Boat That Rocked’. His most recent movie was ‘What We Do In the Shadows’, a New Zealand made horror comedy about vampires.
