Tom Hardy, probably best known for playing Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, will star as Elton John in the biopic Rocketman.

The film has been picked up by New Focus CEO Peter Schlessel for release under his FilmDirect subsidiary. They are expecting the film to start filming in the fall of 2014.

Elton John is executive producing the film and will rerecord many of his songs to fit the emotion of the scenes in which they are used in the film. The film is being produced by Steve Hamilton Shaw and Elton’s partner, David Furnish of Rocket Pictures along with Lawrence Bender of AI Film.

Hardy’s acting career started with 2001’s HBO series Band of Brothers and the film Black Hawk Down. He has since appeared in such movies as Sweeney Todd, Inception and Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy and will star in the upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road.
