Tom Odell To Bring His Long Way Down Tour to Sydney and Melbourne

The Frontier Touring Company will bring Tom Odell and his high-energy performances to Australia through December and January supported by Melody Pool.

The tour will coincide with Odell’s appearance at this year’s Falls Festival and emphasises his quick rise to fame in the music world.

Signed to Lily Allen’s ‘In The Name Of’ label by the lady herself, Odell cut his chops playing open-mic nights at pubs and clubs in his hometown of Chichester, West Sussex.  Soon after being signed to Allen’s label, Odell released his debut EP ‘Songs From Another Love’ that garnered worldwide acclaim from critics and fans alike.

His single ‘Another Love’ has become a hit worldwide and his performance of said track on Later… with Jools Holland became one of that year’s favourite performances.

This year Odell became the first male to win the BRITs Critics’ Choice Award. Previous winners include Adele, Emeli Sandé and Florence and the Machine, so it’s safe to assume we can expect big things to come from the 22 year-old.

Odell’s debut album ‘Long Way Down’ (out now through Sony Music Australia) has also received massive acclaim, shooting to number one in the UK and Scotland.

Speaking on the album, Odell stated,

I hope the album feels human and real and that there are some flaws – because the flaws help make it what it is. Really, I’d love to live in a time when music felt uncontrived and imperfect and gave people a real sense of elevation. When it’s sad I want it to be REALLY sad. When it’s happy I want it to feel euphoric…I suppose I want the record to express the heightened feelings and emotions we all get in our lives.

Supporting Odell on his tour will be Melody Pool. Hailing from NSW’s Hunter Region, Pool recently released her debut album ‘The Hurting Scene’ through Liberation Music to rave reviews. Her addition as Odell’s support will make for a fantastic night of music.

Kraftwerk Beam Down Into Melbourne Captain’s Log Stardate 0812230830pm #REVIEW

I wasn’t quite prepared for the “strap in and enjoy the ride’ experience of Kraftwerk. I hadn’t seen them live since the Big Day Out of 2003. It was still light when they came in, in the tent (not the outdoor stage) and they were wearing suits. Someone at the time commented that it was like watching four businessmen in the Qantas Club sending emails to each other.

At one point Jackson Browne commented how he “doesn’t think of himself as 75 and doesn’t think of his beard as grey” but that is what a lifetime of success will do to you. For many people in the room (including myself) who started the Jackson Browne journey with his first album in 1972, this show delivered a deep dive across the entire career.

Paul McCartney Is Getting Better All The Time At Most Likely His Last Ever Melbourne Show #Review

The Beatles played six concerts in Melbourne on that one and only Australian tour of 1964, two shows each on the 15, 16 and 17th of June. The next time Paul was in Melbourne was for two Wings concerts on 13 and 14 November, 1975. There were two MCG concerts on 9 and 10 March, 1993, and two AAMI Park shows on 6 and 7 December, 2017. 21 October, 2023 at Marvel Stadium was special. It was the 13th and most likely the last time Sir Paul McCartney will ever perform in Melbourne, Australia.
